In her role as instructor for SOCPSY 4ZZ6, the Social Psychology Research Capstone course, Dr. Clancy expertly guides final-year social psychology students through the steps of primary data collection, analysis, and interpretation. Several projects are published every year in the McMaster Undergraduate Journal of Social Psychology, of which Dr. Clancy is the faculty advisor. Dr. Clancy has also developed and taught other courses within Social Psychology (SOCPSY 1Z03: An Introduction to Social Psychology; SOCPSY 3ZZ3: Small Worlds: Children and Childhood) and the Department of Health, Aging & Society (HLTHAGE 1AA3: Introduction to Health and Society; HLTHAGE 3T03: Health and Incarceration).

In 2021-22, Dr. Clancy contributed further to social psychology students’ undergraduate experience in two ways. First, she introduced a student-run Social Psychology conference. Funded by Dr. Clancy’s MacPherson Institute Teaching & Learning PALAT Research Grant, this virtual conference provided our students with a platform to share their academic essays and research projects. Second, she launched the “ABC’s Skills Workshop and Certificate of Completion”, which aimed to enhance students’ academic writing, communication, and critical thinking skills.

Through these contributions, Dr. Clancy has had an indelible impact on the university experience of Social Psychology students. Dr. Clancy’s wide-ranging knowledge, famed organization skills, and caring attitude have made her a favourite with students over the years. It is wonderful that her contributions have been honoured with this teaching award.
