Do Personality Traits Predict Social Media Behaviour?
Do Personality Traits Predict Social Media Behaviour?
The use of social media has become an everyday habit for many people, yet there is wide variation in the sites people prefer and how they use each site.
We have found that Twitter users tend to be higher than non-users in openness to experience (i.e., creativity, curiosity) and often use Twitter for career promotion and to share information. People higher in narcissism tend to use both Twitter and Facebook for attention-seeking and to promote their personal achievements. Our ongoing work examines the personality traits that predict Instagram and TikTok use, the motives people have for using these sites, and the type of content that they generate.
